Access & Awareness Project DDA workshop

Access & Awareness Project - Developing hall sustainability with new activities & services

N, S, E & W Devon - venues to be confirmed - for Hall management committees, volunteers developing new services & activities

Access & Awareness Project:

The project, which is funded for three years by the Big Lottery Fund is now half way through and there are many new and exciting things happening in halls, resulting from the project.  Approximately half of all the halls in Devon (195) have now been on the three hour access (Disability Discrimination Act) workshop and about half of those have had a CCD access audit.  This has enabled them to claim £250 from our Access ‘Doing Pot’ - to be used towards starting a new or developing an existing activity or service for older people and/or disabled people living within the community.  We will shortly be able to publish these initiatives, which include community library, walking groups, community shopping, health and social care activities (e.g. blood pressure clinic, chiropody, Citizens Advice etc.).

To run alongside the DDA access workshops we are also delivering two other types of workshops – particularly aimed at the halls that have attended the access workshop.  One of the workshops focuses on the financial sustainability of the hall and the other on increasing the users of the hall and widening participation within the community.  Please see over for fuller details of these workshops. The booking form is on the reverse of the ‘flyer’.

We would be grateful if you could circulate and discuss with your colleagues (or pass on to the hall management committee if you are the Parish Council). .

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries and we look forward to hearing from your shortly.

Yours faithfully

Penny Thame

CCD Access Officer (Rural Community Buildings)
